METHOD all-alpha protein (most structures are from Yeast),             
METHOD and the former is Alpha+Beta. The high resolution               
METHOD structure of B. Subtilis Chorismate Mutase                      
METHOD (Lander et al, Acta Cryst. 2000, V.56 - page 673)               
METHOD recently became available giving insights into                  
METHOD active site residues. PDB ID: 1DBF. This had                    
METHOD comparable length to T86.                                       
METHOD                                                                 
METHOD ALIGNMENT                                                       
METHOD An alignment was constructed using PrISM's Anchor               
METHOD mode that allows manual intervention. Care was taken            
METHOD to align active site residues of 1DBF with like residues        
METHOD of T86.  These seemed to align easily. Furthermore,             
METHOD Glutamate 155 of T86 (near C-terminus) was found to be          
METHOD essential for function by mutation studies                      
METHOD (Seibert et al, 1994, Microbiology, V.140-page 897).            
METHOD This aligned with a Glu126 (also near the C-terminus of         
METHOD the domain) of 1DBF that was shown to be in the active          
METHOD site of the mutase.                                             
METHOD                                                                 
METHOD Models were built using Modeller4.0 (Sali & Blundell,1994)     
METHOD and the side-chains refined by SCAP (Xiang & Honig).            
METHOD The models were compared using TROLL (Petrey & Honig)           
METHOD energy function and the best scoring models are submitted,
METHOD as ranked by the energy function.
