METHOD YbaB homologs are found in single copy in nearly every known bacterium,
METHOD almost invariably between the genes for DNA polymerase III tau subunit and RecR.
METHOD They are also found in multiple copy in plants (predicted chloroplast
METHOD localization by PSORT). COILS predicts two coiled-coil segments of approximately
METHOD 4 heptads at the N- and C-terminal ends of the protein. The central region is
METHOD predicted by JPred to contain two beta-strands. The protein strongly resembles
METHOD the GIM/prefoldin subunits in size and secondary structure (Leroux et al., EMBO
METHOD J. 23:6730, 1999). Correspondingly, we predict that the beta-strands of a 
METHOD homohexamer associate centrally into a platform, with six antiparallel,
METHOD intramolecular coiled-coil 'legs' protruding at the rim to form an open basket 
METHOD shape. A structural alignment of the antiparallel, intramolecular coiled coil 
METHOD to an analogous segment from Thermus thermophilus SerRS is shown below. 
METHOD Note that the second coiled-coil helix of YbaB is predicted to contain a central
METHOD stutter, which is not present in SerRS.
