METHOD Blast and Psi-Blast searches with HPPK_ECOLI yielded a group of 15  
METHOD homologues including two distantly related sequences from parasitic  
METHOD protozoans containing large insertions. After alignment in MACAW, we  
METHOD obtained a consensus secondary structure prediction from the JPred  
METHOD server. In MAP, this prediction yielded top hits among proteins with a  
METHOD ferredoxin fold. Comparison of the conserved domains in HPPKs and  
METHOD proteins of the ferredoxin fold indicated some regions of  
METHOD incompatibility, leading us to search for related protein folds with a  
METHOD better match, and eventually to the thioredoxin fold.
