METHOD Blast searches with HdeA suggested a distant similarity with HdeB, 
METHOD substantiated by the similar size of the proteins, the existence of a 
METHOD signal sequence in both, and the identical spacing of two cysteine 
METHOD residues presumed to form a disulfide bond. Searches in the unfinished 
METHOD genomes at NCBI yielded one further HdeB ortholog from Yersinia pestis. 
METHOD The submitted secondary structure prediction was obtained from the JPred 
METHOD server using the aligned sequences. A MAP search of the PDB with the 
METHOD predicted secondary structure and a distance constraint on the cysteines 
METHOD did not yield viable templates, suggesting that HdeA assumes a novel 
METHOD fold.
