METHOD PSI-BLAST searches with the alpha adaptin ear domain sequence did not   
METHOD yield clues to relationships with other protein families.  Because   
METHOD alpha and gamma adaptins are alignable in all regions except the ear  
METHOD domains, and because the JPRED server predicted similar secondary   
METHOD structures in the gamma adaptin ear domain and in the alpha adaptin   
METHOD N-terminal part of the ear domain, we chose to treat the two as   
METHOD structurally related.  A MAP search for both domains yielded mainly  
METHOD IG-folds in the top hits.  An IG-fold was therefore picked as the   
METHOD template.  The alignment was made by maximum overlap of conserved  
METHOD hydrophobic stretches with the observed beta strands.
